Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Following the successful commissioning of the second 1,000-megawatt (MW) unit of Huadian Laizhou Power Generation Company Limited's (Laizhou, Shandong) Laizhou Power Plant on December 18, 2012, the total installed capacity of China Huadian Corporation (Beijing) surpassed 100 gigawatts (GW), according to an announcement made by China Huadian Corporation on December 21, 2012.
Huadian Liazhou Power Plant, located in Jincheng Town, Laizhou City of North China's Shandong Province, has a total planned capacity of 8,000 MW. Of this amount, two 1,000-MW ultra-supercritical units were built in Phase I. The project is the first 1,000-MW level ultra-supercritical unit project built in the Yellow River Delta and the first 1,000-MW coal-fired unit project that received approval to be built in the mode of replacing small units with larger ones. The project is invested by Huadian Power International Limited (Beijing) (SHA:600027), the listed flagship of China Huadian Corporation.
On January 29, 2010, the project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission, the top planner of China. Construction of the project was officially kicked off on March 20, 2010. With the commissioning of Unit 2, the two units in Laizhou Power Plant will be able to produce 11-billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year. Another two 1,000- MW units are proposed to be built in Phase II and are also under permitting. Upon completion, Huadian Laizhou Power Plant will become an important power source support for the development of the Bohai Bay Economic Zone as well as the Yellow River Delta Economic Zone.
As one of the top five power producers established during the national electric power system reformation carried out in 2002, China Huadian Corporation has been actively working on improving its efficiency and the proportion of clean energy in its total installed capacity. So far, the proportion of clean energy of China Huadian Corporation has reached 25%. The installed capacity of large coal-fired units (with a single capacity of 600 MW or above) has been increase from 2.4 GW in 2002 to 32.61 GW, accounting for over 42% of its total coal-fired units.
