Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Huadian Energy Company Limited (SH:600726) (Harbin, Heilongjiang) received government approval to build a 350-megawatt (MW), coal-fired cogeneration unit at its Fulaerji Thermal Power Plant.
The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top planner in China, approved the project on January 8, according to an announcement from China Huadian Corporation (Beijing).
The cogeneration unit will replace units 1 through 6 at the plant, which have been in operation for more than 50 years.
The project includes the installation of environmental protection devices, such as high-efficiency dust removers, a flue-gas desulfurizer and nitrogen oxide controllers.
Located on the bank of the Nengjiang River, on the Songhuajiang-Nengjiang Plain, the Fulaerji plant was built in July 1953 and commissioned in August 1955. The plant is one of the 156 key national projects built with assistance from the former Soviet Union, and it was furnished with the first with high-temperature and high-pressure cogeneration unit in China. The power plant currently has a total installed capacity of 225 MW, with six 25-MW units that were imported from the former Soviet Union, and three 25-MW units made by Harbin Electric Corporation (Harbin, Heilongjiang).
In March 2009, the project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration to begin pre-stage preparations. In November 2009, the Ministry of Environmental Protection cleared the environmental impact assessment report for the project. Final documents for the project were submitted to the NRDC by November 2013.
The project is scheduled to begin operations in 2015.
