Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). PSI Energy Incorporated (Plainfield, Indiana), a regulated subsidiary of Cinergy Corporation (NYSE: CIN) (Cincinnati, Ohio), is completing the repowering of two 1950 vintage 50 megawatt (MW) General Electric (GE) steam turbine/generator sets in Hamilton County, Noblesville, Indiana.
Along with engineering & construction firm Sargent & Lundy (Chicago, Illinois), Cinergy started repowering the two 50 MW 1950 vintage steam turbine/generator sets in February 2002. The project is on scheduled for completion in June 2003. Cinergy is replacing two coal-fired boilers with three natural gas-fired GE MS6001FA combustion turbine/generators, each with a Foster Wheeler (FW) heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) that provides steam to the steam turbine/generators. Cinergy is doing this for a two-fold purpose: it will increase the stations capacity from 100MW to 310MW plus it will help meet state and federal environmental requirements for sulfur dioxide (SO2) & nitrogen oxide (NOx) reductions.
Cinergy Corporation was established in 1994 and is a diversified energy company. Cinergy owns or operates more than 17,500MW of electrical and combined heat plant generation that is operational in the regulated & non-regulated markets. Cinergy and its subsidiaries employ approximately 7,800 employees and between gas and electric has over 2 million customers.
Sargent & Lundy LLC is a global leader in professional services for the electric power industry.
