Cocoa project activity in Ecuador continues to grow despite the global COVID-19 pandemic. The country has remained the top cocoa exporter in Latin America and the fourth worldwide during the first nine months of 2020. With an investment of $50 million, the Swedish group Barry Callebault plans to construct a cocoa processing plant and export headquarters in Duran, Guayas.
In addition, there are investments by companies such as Republica del Cacao, Valle Noble and Cargill, among others. Ecuador's government expects cocoa and derivatives production and the value of cocoa exports to double by 2030.
