Colombian Company to Build 32.5 Million-Gallon Ethanol Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Alcol Rio Suarez SA (Bogota, Colombia) plans to build a 32.5 million-gallon ethanol-production plant in Guepsa, in the northern Columbia state of Santander. The feedstock will be sugarcane juice. Construction of the plant will start in 2009 and will be carried out in two stages.
The project, which requires an investment of approximately $160 million, consists of conditioning of the land, procurement of machinery and technology, sowing and harvesting of sugarcane, and design and construction of the ethanol production plant. Alcol Rio Suarez SA has recently selected the companies that will handle the engineering and construction of the facilities. The engineering will be developed by Tago International, and the construction will be performed by Arquitectos e Ingenieros Asociados SA (Bogota).
The building of the facilities is expected to start in March 2009 and will be carried out in two stages. The first stage will be completed in March 2009, after which the plant will produce 16 million gallons of ethanol per year. By March 2012, when the second stage is complete, the plant will reach maximum production capacity of 32.5 million gallons per year.
