Construction of Huaneng Ruijin Power Plant’s Phase I Project Officially Starts

Pan Yiyang, Secretary of the CPC Ganzhou Committee, announced the official construction start of the new power plant. Cai Xiaoming, Mayor of Ganzhou City and Qu Xiaojun, Vice President of Huaneng Power International, Incorporated, a subsidiary of China Huaneng Corporation, made speeches at the ceremony.

The Huaneng Ruijin Power Plant is the largest energy construction project in the history of Ganzhou, Xiaoming said. Upon the completion of the project, the historic situation of no stable power source in the southwest of Jiangxi will be wholly changed. The project will also have an important effect on improving the grid structure in Ganzhou City and even in Jiangxi, because it will optimize the city’s investment and business environment, and the implement the developing strategy of linking with the Changjiang and Pearl Rivers and Fujian, thus building a new Ganzhou”.

The planned installation capacity of the Huaneng Ruijin Power Plant is 1,900 MW. Two 350 MW supercritical coal units together with a flue gas desulfurization device will be built in Phase I, representing an investment of $311 million and is expected to put into operation in 2008. The adoption of highly efficient supercritical units will play an active role in building an energy-saving and environmental enterprise.

China Huaneng Corporation is one of the top five power producers in China, and the total installation capacity of the company reached 57,000 MW by the end of 2006.

The construction schedule of Huaneng Ruijin Power Plant calls for the first unit to be put into operation in October 2008, and the second unit to be put into operation in December 2008.
