Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The grassroot 201.1-megawatt (MW) Horse Creek Wind project in Texas has recently received materials, and will soon be pouring concrete.
With a total investment value of $365 million, Horse Creek was originally owned by Lincoln Clean Energy LLC (Chicago, Illinois), but was sold to an undisclosed financial investor in 2015.
Horse Creek is located in Haskell County. The site was chosen due to its optimum transmission location as well excellent wind resources.
Blattner Energy (Avon, Minnesota) is acting as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider. Horse Creek project will include 118 General Electric (GE) (NYSE:GE) 1.7-103 wind turbines, and is expected to reach commercial operations by July 2016.
Horse Creek is part of a larger plan that includes the 198.9-MW Electra Wind addition. Electra Wind, valued at $350 million, is located about 150 miles from Horse Creek.
Electra will include 117 GE 1.7-103 wind turbines. The Electra addition will be engineered and constructed by the Blattner Energy team that is working on the Horse Creek project.
Construction on Electra will begin once certain parts of Horse Creek are completed. The building of these two projects will eventually overlap.
Electra is anticipated to reach commercial operation a few months after Horse Creek's completion.
