Horse Creek, Electra Windfarms to Add 460 MW to Texas Grid

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Starwood Energy Group Global LLC's (Greenwich, Connecticut) 230-megawatt (MW) Horse Creek Windfarm recently began commercial operations, and its 230-MW Electra Windfarm is just weeks away from commercial operations. Located in Haskell and Wilbarger counties, Texas, the renewable energy projects will add their power to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) power grid.
The Horse Creek Windfarm began commercial operations late last month, and the Electra Windfarm is scheduled to be online by mid-December.
The Horse Creek and Electra Windfarm projects each consists of 100 General Electric 2.3-MW wind turbines. The energy they produce will be sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The windfarms will produce enough electricity to power over 100,000 homes and businesses each year.
The projects have a combined total investment value of $730 million. Starwood Energy Group engaged Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) as the engineering, procurement and construction firm on both projects. The projects qualifies for the U.S. renewable energy production (PTC) tax credits. General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Boston, Massachusetts) has a 15-year operations and maintenance service contract for both facilities.
