Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) approved Guizhou Jinyuan Chayuan Power Generation Company Limited's (Qianbei, Guizhou) 1,320-megawatt (MW), grassroot Jinsha Chayuan Power Plant project on December 9, 2013. The project has now completed all required pre-stage preparations and has entered its implementation stage, according to an announcement from CPI Guizhou Jinyuan Group Company Limited (Guiyang, Guizhou), the project investor and a regional subsidiary of China Power Investment Corporation (Beijing), on December 12.
According to the NDRC, the project will be built to replace small units with larger ones, specifically by shutting down four small-size, 125-megawatt (MW), coal-fired units in the existing Jinsha Power Plant. The project will be furnished with two supercritical, "W"-shaped, flame coal-fired boilers to drive two 660-MW condensing steam turbine generating units, at a new site in Chayuan Town of Jinsha County, in Bijie City, in southwestern China's Guizhou province.
As a typical pit-mouth power plant, the project will use coal produced from its surrounding coal mines. The project also will be furnished with a high-efficiency, electrostatic dust-removing device; limestone-plaster, wet-process flue gas desulfurization; a low-nitrogen oxide burner; and a selective catalyst reduction (SCR) system for nitrogen oxide reduction. The total investment in the project will be about $850 million.
Early in April 2012, the project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration to kick off pre-stage preparation. In May 2012, the feasibility study report for the project passed an examination from an expert panel. Site preparation for the project kicked off in June 2013.
The main turbine, generator and boiler equipment required for the project has been awarded to Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan). Site preparation is close to completion. With the receiving of the final approval, construction on main areas is ready to kick off shortly. According to the schedule, both units will begin operations in 2015.
