Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The planned restart of Unit 2 of the Saint Johns River Power Park Station in Jacksonville, Florida, after an equipment replacement outage has been delayed for two to three weeks due to a crack in the turbine, according to sources. The plant is jointly owned by the Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) and Florida Power & Light Company, which each take 50% of the plant's generation.
The replacement outage began in March, with a planned completion in April. Work was being done on a 24-hour-a-day basis to address the turbine crack, in an effort to return the unit to operations by the end of May.
The plant has a design capacity of 1,358 megawatts (MW), with two identical coal-fired base load generating units. The replacement project had included replacement of boiler tubes, tube shields, pad welds in the primary-superheated, Platen-superheated, finishing superheater, reheater and economizer sections; waterwall and HRA panel tubes to improve the boiler performance and extend the service life.
