Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Crosstex Energy Partners LP (NASDAQ:XTEX)(Dallas, Texas) is planning to construct a new natural gas pipeline expansion project on its LIG pipeline system in Louisiana. The new expansion pipeline will be designed to allow access to natural gas production that is actively being developed in northeast Louisiana and to interconnect with a new pipeline, to be constructed by Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (NYSE:KMP) (Houston, Texas), seeking to export 700 million cubic feet per day of natural gas from the Bossier and Barnett Shale formations of East Texas.

The $225 million LIG Project will entail the construction of 65 miles of new 36-inch diameter pipeline to extend the pipeline and an additional 140 miles of 36-inch, 30-inch, and 24-inch diameter pipeline laterals and looping segments along the existing pipeline system to enable it to accept the additional load. The 65-mile extension will originate at the existing LIG system near Natchitoches, Louisiana, and will terminate at an interconnection with the planned Kinder Morgan Carthage pipeline near Shreveport, Louisiana. Compression for the expanded capacity will be supplied by a single new natural gas compressor station, to be located along the pipeline extension near Natchitoches. The compressor station will utilize two 3,500 horsepower internal combustion engine-based compressor packages.

Crosstex hopes to select engineering and construction services companies by the end of 2005. Construction on the LIG Project is scheduled to begin in early 2006, with a completion and in-service date targeted for some time in the third quarter of 2006.
