Current New Plant Construction Breaks $6 Billion in Rocky Mountain Region
Wyoming has the majority of construction dollars for new plants, with a total of $2 billion of total investment being spent, which averages out to $360 million per project.

The Rocky Mountain region, which includes Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming, currently has 48 plants under construction that are due to come online through 2008 (reference: PECWeb Direct. While collectively the projects represent a $6.5 billion total impact to the region, the projects benefit individual states in unique ways.
Wyoming has the majority of construction dollars for new plants, with a total of $2 billion of total investment being spent, which averages out to $360 million per project. Colorado took the lead for having the most new plants under construction with ten new plants. Utah may be under the radar compared to the regions other states in terms of capital spending with its 5th place $804 million worth of TIV and its five new plants placing it in 7th for new builds. But it is the regional leader in regards to new job creation due to the estimated 1,800 jobs expected to staff the new plants This is triple the expected number of jobs to be created in Colorado.
More than $1.8 billion alone is being invested on a new coal-fired power plant being constructed in Wright, Wyoming. The project consists of both a 320-megawatt (MW) coal-fired unit and a 750 MW coal-fired unit. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in mid-2008, with construction of the second unit complete in 2010. In Colorado, the most expensive new plant under construction is a $300 natural gas liquids fractionator facility located in Meeker, Utah. Kraftmaid Cabinetry and its $100 million wood cabinet production plant will bring the majority of new jobs to the state with up to 1,300 new jobs being created.
