U.S. Says 22% of Gulf Oil Production Shut Down Due to Storm - A little more than 22%, or 352,946 barrels per day, of crude oil equivalent production in U.S. regulated areas of the Gulf of Mexico had been shut as of Tuesday by the threat posed by Tropical Depression No. 9, U.S. authorities said. About 10 percent of natural gas output, or 346 million cubic feet per day, had been closed because of the depression. (Reuters)
Oil Discoveries Shrunk to Low Level in 2015 - Consultancy firm Wood Mackenzie (Edinburgh, Scotland) reports that only 2.7 billion barrels of new crude oil supply was discovered in 2015, the smallest amount since 1947, as companies slash their exploration budgets because of low oil prices. Chevron Signs LNG Sales Agreement - Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) (San Ramon, California) announced that Chevron U.S.A. Incorporated has signed a deal with China's ENN LNG Trading Company Limited, which will purchase up to 650,000 metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year for over 10 years, with the first delivery expected in 2018 or the first half of 2019. Canadian Solar Plans Construction of Power Station in Mexico - Canadian Solar Incorporated (NASDAQ:CSIQ) (Guelph, Ontario) plans to construct a solar photovoltaic power station near the municipality of Aguascalientes, located in Aguascalientes state in north-central Mexico. (IIR)
Minnesota Windfarm Begins Operations - The 400-megawatt (MW) Odell Windfarm, which is located in Cottonwood, Jackson, Martin, and Watonwan counties in Minnesota, began commercial operations this month, following its completion by Algonquin Power & Utilities Corporation (TSX:AQN) (Oakville, Ontario). Uganda Grants Production Licenses to Tullow Oil, Total - Uganda has granted five crude oil production licenses to Tullow Oil plc (London, England) and Total SA (NYSE:TOT) (Paris, France), clearing the way for commercial oil production to begin in the country by 2020. (Reuters)
NATURAL GAS
Gas Down 2% on Cooler Weather Forecast - As autumn approaches, traders foresee natural gas-fired generators using less of the fuel, helping drive down natural gas for October delivery 2.1%, to $2.835 per million British thermal units, on Tuesday. (Bloomberg)
