Obama Administration Halts Section of Dakota Access Pipeline Work - The Obama administration halted work on a stretch of land where Energy Transfer Partners LP is building its controversial Dakota Access oil pipeline. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers won't authorize construction on its land near Lake Oahe in North and South Dakota until it determines if it should reconsider prior decisions to allow the project, the government said in a statement Friday. Sasol Earnings Down 17% - Sasol (NYSE:SSL) (Johannesburg, South Africa) reported a 17% dip in full-year profits on Monday, pointing to lower crude oil prices and a volatile economic environment for the decline. (Reuters)

Total Takes Control of Barnett Shale Assets as Chesapeake Heads for the Doors - Shale gas production is less expensive than offshore production, and Total S.A. (NYSE:TOT) (Paris, France) is the latest European oil major to seize an opportunity to broaden its role in the North American shale market. Total upped its investment in the Barnett Shale gas fields, which cover northern Texas, by buying 75% of troubled producer Chesapeake Energy Corporation's (NYSE:CHK) (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) assets in the shale play. Qatar Petroleum Considers Joining Exxon in Mozambique Gas Move - Sources tell Reuters that Qatar Petroleum is in talks with Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas) and Eni SpA (NYSE:E) (Rome, Italy) on some kind of involvement in Mozambique which could involve a joint investment with Exxon, which is considering buying assets from Eni, including an onshore LNG plant. (Reuters)

Industrial Info Tracks $350 Million of Natural Gas-Fired Maintenance Projects - In addition to new natural gas-fired plants being constructed, Industrial Info is tracking 130 maintenance projects at natural gas-fired power plants that are planned to kick off during the fourth quarter of this year. These projects have an estimated total investment value of more than $350 million. (IIR)
CRUDE OIL
OPEC Lowers Demand Forecast - Demand for crude from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries will average 32.48 million barrels per day (BBL/d) in 2017, OPEC said in a monthly report on Monday. That is down 530,000 BBL/d from the previous forecast. (Reuters)
