Delta American Fuels Begins Constructing Arkansas Biodiesel Plant

Phase one is expected to be completed in about 40 to 44 weeks and phase two construction is expected to start later this summer. Both phases are expected to be fully operational by Fall 2008.

Released Friday, March 30, 2007

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Delta American Fuels LLC (West Helena, Arkansas), a newly formed division of Planter Service & Sales Incorporated, has started construction on a 40 million gallon per year biodiesel plant that will be located in Helena, Arkansas. The company will convert an existing fertilizer plant, located just outside Helena on Highway 20, into a biodiesel production facility.

The company has awarded a turn-key design-build contract to SAFER Energy Group (Mission, Kansas) to build the estimated $40 million plant. Phase one of the project consists of the biodiesel production unit; an additional phase includes an oil seed crushing unit to produce the feedstock to make the fuel.

Phase one is expected to be completed in 40 to 44 weeks and phase two construction is expected to start later this summer. Both phases are expected to be fully operational by Fall 2008.

Biodiesel production has been quietly growing in Arkansas and the state already has two operational plants running.

FutureFuel Chemical Company (Batesville, Arkansas), formally Eastman Chemical, currently operates a plant in Batesville that is ramping up production to 160 million gallons per year. Last year Patriot Biofuels began producing 3 million gallons per year at their facility in Stuttgart, Arkansas.

Additional plants are in the works for Arkansas SoyEnergy Group that is currently building a plant in De Witt (3 million gallons per year); Green Way Bio Energy in Little Rock (10 million gal/yr); Delta Intermodal & Bioenergy Company in Pine Bluff (30 million gal/yr); and International Bio Fuels Corporation in Arkansas City (12 million gal/yr).

Once all plants are operating at capacity, Arkansas will have the ability of producing over 250 million gallons of biodiesel annually.
