Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--"It works," says Delta American Fuels LLC (West Helena, Arkansas), a subsidiary of Planters Services and Sales Incorporated (West Helena), in reference to the successful completion and operations startup on the company's new biodiesel plant in Helena, Arkansas, on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Construction of the plant started in December 2006. After numerous delays and setbacks, the plant is now producing biodiesel. The plant is capable of producing 40 million gallons per year of the renewable fuel, utilizing multiple feedstocks from soybean oil, canola oil, cotton seed oil, and animal fats.
The modular plant was designed and built by SAFER Energy Group (Lenexa, Kansas) and cost an estimated $40 million to construct. The site has premium logistics benefits, with easy access to truck, rail and river transportation, which is a vital asset to remain competitive in a struggling market arena.
The plant also created 50 new jobs for the rural community, which is roughly 50 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee.
With the Delta plant operational, Arkansas now has the capacity to produce more than 110 million gallons per year of biodiesel. Other plants producing in Arkansas include FutureFuel Corporation (Batesville), Arkansas SoyEnergy Group LLC (De Witt), and Pinnacle Biofuels Incorporated (Crossett).
