U.S. Natural Gas Futures Drop More than 10%
- U.S. natural gas futures plunged more than 10% on Monday to a seven-week low on forecasts for less demand over the next two weeks than previously expected due to a decline in liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. Front-month gas futures fell 21.3 cents, or 10.4%, to settle at $1.835 per million British thermal units, their biggest one-day percentage drop since January 2019, to their lowest close since July 31. U.S. Coast Guard Closes Ports in Texas Ahead of Tropical Storm Beta
- The U.S. Coast Guard closed the ports of Houston, Galveston, Texas City and Freeport in Texas, ahead of Tropical Storm Beta, which is expected to make landfall by Tuesday on the Texas coast. The Coast Guard shut the ports through which crude oil flows from tankers to refineries in Houston, Texas City and Sweeny, Texas, as well as petrochemical feedstocks to chemical plants, because of forecast storm surge and rough seas from Beta.
