Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Eight U.S. power projects were nominated for "Project of the Year" by the editors of Power Engineering magazine, RenewableEnergyWorld.com and PennWell Corporation. The finalists were selected from more than 100 nominees in the eight major source categories of coal, gas, solar, wind, bioenergy and hydro electricity.
Dominion Virginia Powers' (Richmond, Virginia) 585-megawatt (MW) hybrid coal power in Virginia City, Virginia, was a "Best Coal Project" nominee, along with Basin Electric Power Cooperative's (Bismarck, North Dakota) 385-MW Dry Fork coal-fired project located in Gillette, Wyoming.
Tennessee Valley Authority's (Chattanooga, Tennessee) new 880-MW John Sevier natural gas plant in Rogersville, Tennessee, got a nod for "Best Natural Gas Project."
Cogentrix Energy Incorporated's (Charlotte, North Carolina) $150 million, 30-MW Alamosa solar project in San Luis, Colorado, was nominated for "Best Solar Project."
Pattern Energy Group's (La Jolla, California) 151-MW Spring Valley windfarm project in Ely, Nevada, was selected as "Best Windfarm Project," as well as E.ON Climate & Renewables LLC's (Sheldon, Illinois) 150-MW Settlers Trail windfarm in Sheldon, Illinois.
Southern Company Services' (Birmingham, Alabama) new 117-MW biomass power plant in Nacogdoches, Texas, was nominated for "Best Biomass Project."
And WV Hydro (Aiken, South Carolina) got the thumbs up for its 4.4-MW Jordan hydroelectric conversion project in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
The winners of the Projects of the Year awards will be announced during a banquet scheduled Monday, December 10, at the Hilton Orlando Hotel in Orlando, Florida, as part of the POWER-GEN International Conference and Exhibition. Come see Industrial Info at Booth 1611 at the conference.
