Ergon and Bunge Start Construction on Joint Venture Fuel Ethanol Plant in Mississippi

Bunge-Ergon Vicksburg LLC, a joint venture between privately held Ergon Ethanol Incorporated (Jackson, Mississippi), a subsidiary of Ergon Incorporated and Bunge North America Incorporated (Saint Louis, Missouri) has begun construction of a new fuel ethanol production plant located in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The $100 million plant will have a nameplate production capacity of 60 million gallons of fuel ethanol annually and will process some 21 million bushels of locally grown corn per year.

Delta-T Corporation (Williamsburg, Virginia) was selected to provide the licensed ethanol process technology and BE&K (Birmingham, Alabama) will oversee construction. Construction is expected to take fourteen months to complete and be fully operational by the second quarter of 2008. Currently site preparation and dirt work is being performed and the builders expect to start pouring concrete in about two weeks.

The project is also the first commercial scale ethanol plant to start construction in Mississippi and when completed will be the largest of its kind in the southeast region. Eight additional plants are in the early development stages in the state as well as three biodiesel plants.
