Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Exelon Wind, a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation (NYSE:EXC) (Chicago, Illinois), with White Construction Incorporated (Indianapolis, Indiana) and M J Electric (Iron Mountain, Michigan), finished the second phase of the $232 million Harvest Windfarm project in November 2012. At the existing site, 33 additional wind turbines were added for a total 106 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy.
The Harvest Windfarm is located in Elkton, Michigan. Phase I, which can supply energy for about 15,000 homes, went commercial in 2007 with 32 Vestas V82 wind turbines. Phase II was added this past November, with 33 V90 Vestas wind turbines. With Phase II up and running, an additional 15,000 homes and business are added to the total. Each wind turbine is 265 feet high and rotates at 14 to 17 revolutions per minute (RPM). Now that project is operational, the power that is generated for the local grid is sold to Consumers Power under a long-term service agreement.
Exelon Corporation has approximately 35,000 MW of power generation fleets in the U.S. and about 19,000 MW of nuclear. Since the merger between Exelon and Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEP), Exelon is one of the leading energy providers in the nation. The company constructs power plants, is involved in design-build and engineering, and has a presence in the petrochemical and pharmaceutical markets.
M J Electric, the subcontractor, has a wide range of regional offices and districts offices in U.S. It provides companies such as White Construction with tools and support that work in multi-union jurisdictions.
