Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Florida Gas Transmission Company (FGT) (Houston, Texas), a 50/50 joint venture pipeline system owned by CrossCountry Energy (Houston, Texas), a business unit of Southern Union Company (NYSE:SUG ) (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania), and El Paso Corporation (NYSE:EP )(Houston, Texas), is planning to construct a new natural gas compressor station in Florida as a part of its new $29.6 million Turkey Point Project. The new compressor station, designated #22, will be located at the intersection of NW 12th Avenue and NW 64th Street in Dade County.
Compressor station #22 will encompass two new 8,500 horsepower GE electric motors packaged with Solar compressors. The installation of the units will be staggered, with the first compressor unit coming online October 1, 2006 and the second on December 1, 2006. The station will be designed in such a way that one unit will be running continuously, while the second unit will be used as a redundant backup unit in case the first unit fails or comes down for maintenance. In addition to the compressor station, FGT will construct 1,600 feet of new 16-inch diameter natural gas transmission pipeline to Florida Power & Light Company's Turkey Point power station, as well as additional 525 feet of 24-inch diameter pipeline, that will terminate at a new tee and side valve on the Turkey Point Site.
The New compressor station and pipeline construction will enable FGT to deliver enough natural-gas to supply four new natural gas-fired power generation units at the Turkey Point power plant, totaling 1,150 megawatts. The power plant expansion could provide enough power for 230,000 homes or businesses. FGT hopes to receive final FERC approvals in the third quarter of 2005 and will select contractors and begin construction activities in late 2005, with final completion scheduled for December 2006.
