Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) (Gainesville, Florida) is awaiting responses for additional generation. The commission is primarily interested in biomass and integrated gasification technologies, or the opportunity to join in on a larger project. The letters of interest are due by December 15, 2006, and the utility hopes to submit the preferred proposals to the utility board in January or February 2007. If approved, the utility believes it will take 12-24 months to complete permitting and start construction.

Gainesville has been studying the addition of 220-600 megawatts for about five years, during which they have studied technologies including circulating fluidized-bed boilers (CFB), integrated gasification combined cycle that could use biomass, coal and/or petroleum coke. Gainesville is leaning toward self-building and partnering or power purchase from plants that will utilize these types of technologies.

According to project team member Ralph Wisco, they do not expect to start selection of any contractors probably until the second quarter of 2007.
