Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)-- Green Plains Renewable Energy Incorporated (NASDAQ:GPRE) (Omaha, Nebraska) is expecting to put its Superior, Iowa, ethanol plant online within the next 60 days. Despite bone-chilling cold weather in the area, construction is progressing on the tank farm, and a fair amount of process piping is yet to be installed.
Construction started on the estimated $120 million plant in August 2006, and once completed, the plant will have the capacity of producing 50 million gallon per year of ethanol from 19 million bushels of locally grown corn. The plant will utilize Delta-T's (Williamsburg, Virginia) licensed ethanol process technology and is being built by Agri Industries (Merill, Wisconsin). The plant is located on a 135-acre site in Superior about 140 miles north of Des Moines in Dickinson County.
Green Plains completed construction of its first ethanol plant in Shenandoah, Iowa, in August 2007. This plant is also a 50 million-gallon-per-year plant that utilizes ICM's ethanol process technology.
The company is also finalizing a deal to merge with Great Lakes Cooperative, a grain handling cooperative based in Everly, Iowa. It operates grain-handling facilities in Iowa in Greenville, Gruver, Langdon, Milford, Spencer and Superior. The merger will unite Green Plains with one of the largest ag coops in the U.S. and allow the combined companies to more proficiently manage commodity prices and feedstock supply risks.
