Hurricane Zeta to Make Landfall Near New Orleans, a Weather Impact Update by Industrial Info

Zeta is expected to make landfall near New Orleans late today as a Category 2 hurricane

Released Wednesday, October 28, 2020

Hurricane warnings are in effect from central Louisiana to the Mississippi/Alabama border with the approach of Hurricane Zeta. Strong winds, a storm surge and heavy rains are predicted. The potential for prolonged rains through Thursday presents the potential for flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Zeta is expected to make landfall near New Orleans late today as a Category 2 hurricane. Petrochemical, refining and power plants in the region continue to operate, and Industrial Info has not identified plans to suspend these operations prior to the storm's landfall.

Data from our Disaster Impact Tracker indicates there is a potential impact on 334 Oil & Gas offshore production platforms, representing 1,790,638 barrels per day of crude and 2,648 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas capacity, based on the storm's projected path. Industrial Info's research teams continue to release IntraDay alerts for all offshore platforms confirmed to have been impacted by this storm.

Destin Pipeline has removed all nonessential personnel from the Main Pass 260 platform as the Okeanos section is shut down. The Okeanos line collects gas from BP's NA Kika, Thunder Hawk and Thunder Horse platforms, all of which have been shut down.

Enbridge has evacuated personnel from its Ship Shoal 207 platform, which is connected to Genesis Energy's Anaconda and Manta Ray gathering systems, which are also shut down.

Enterprise Product Partners has shut down its Pascagoula gas plant, as gas volumes have fallen below the 160 MMSCFD minimum requirement for operations, due to offshore producers shutting down.

In Louisiana, ports in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Plaquemines, South Louisiana and St. Bernard, along with the Venice Port Complex, are closed. In Mississippi and Alabama, the ports of Gulfport and Mobile are closed.

Industrial Info's researchers continue to monitor the storm's progress and report on plant closures in the Disaster Impact Tracker tool as they are confirmed. For more information on the Disaster Impact Tracker, click here.
