The White Rose field was discovered in January 1988 and began producing in November 2005. It has been producing exclusively for the SeaRose floating production and storage offloading facility (FPSO), which is owned by Husky.
The White Rose field will have the first wellhead platform to be positioned in the Labrador Sea. Arup Group Limited (London, England) was selected by Husky Energy to design the wellhead platform CGS for the WREP. Arup's responsibility is to present the detailed engineering and design of the CGS. When completed, this will be the first wellhead platform installed off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The total investment value of the project is $2.35 billion.
Husky selected Argentia, Newfoundland, as the site to construct a graving dock for the topsides. The purpose-built, de-watered, graving dock extends 65 feet below sea level, which allows the concrete gravity structure to float after completion for an easier tow. Husky plans to tie back the wellhead platform to the SeaRose FPSO for processing and storage.
There was a change earlier this year to the design of the CGS and topsides. Husky raised the original topside weight of 14,500 to 23,000 tons, and the CGS from 50,000 tons to 70,000 tons. Wood Group Mustang Canada (Calgary) has been awarded topsides detailed engineering for the platform. The construction will begin in fourth-quarter 2015 for the topsides and CGS.
Preliminary construction may begin in late 2014 for the subsea installations. The increase of the topsides and CGS may delay the WREP expected in-service date of 2016 to 2017. The overall capacity for the platform is 37,000 barrels per day.
