India Lifts COVID-19 Export Restrictions on Paracetamol APIs, an Industrial Info Market Brief

India on Thursday removed restrictions on the export of paracetamol active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Export curbs were imposed on paracetamol APIs and formulations made from the drug material on March 3 to shore up domestic supplies amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

On April 17, the government lifted curbs on export of formulations made from paracetamol and now India's Directorate General of Foreign Trade has removed restrictions on paracetamol APIs as well.

India has been a major supplier of the pain and fever medicine along with hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
