Chlor-alkali is considered to be one of the oldest industrial sectors in India, which plays a key role in supplying chemicals to other manufacturing sectors such as textiles, pulp & paper, alumina, soaps & detergents, pharma, etc.
The main products in the chlor-alkali industry are caustic soda, chlorine, hydrogen, and soda ash. The manufacturing process of caustic soda is considered an energy-intensive process, and recent years have witnessed the sector upgrade from mercury cell technology to membrane cell technology, thereby reducing energy demands. India plans to invest approximately $577.59 million through 19 capital projects in the caustic soda sector. The majority of them will be implemented through plant expansion and additions and new plant construction. Click here for a list.
