Indonesia's PLTP Baturaden Geothermal Project Extends Drilling for Alternative Drilling Location, an Industrial Info Market Brief

The results of initial exploratory drilling at the PLTP Baturaden geothermal power site in Indonesia, managed by PT Sejahtera Alam Energy (PT SAE), did not meet the targeted output. Only Wellpad H has been considered to be successful, while Wellpad F was unable to generate sufficient steam.

Further studies are being conducted at Wellpad H. Albaren Simbolong, PT SAE's geothermal technical vice president, said PT SAE will be exploring a potential fourth well pad on the north side of Mount Slamet, a volcano. Drilling permits have been extended, as operations were slowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

PT SAE still expects PLTP Baturaden to generate 220 megawatts (MW), with commercial operations by 2025.

Industrial Info is tracking four PLTP Baturaden projects, worth $655.45 million. However, three of the projects are assessed as having a low probability (0-69%) of moving forward as planned, and one project is assessed as having a medium probability (70-80%).
