Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). As the summer 2007 construction season ramps up, thousands of companies are beginning construction and maintenance projects throughout the United States within the Industrial Manufacturing Industry. At the same time, numerous projects, that began construction last year, are nearing completion. These projects cover a wide variety of sectors within the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, ranging from automotive to the plastic & rubber to printing. Among those expansions, revamps and upgrades there are also over 100 grassroot plants that are currently scheduled to be completed during the second quarter, resulting in over 15,500 new jobs across the country.
The Great Lakes region of the country is once again leading the way in new plants becoming operational this quarter with 27. The region is also leading the pack in terms of new jobs for the quarter with close to 4,200 jobs expected to be created by the opening of the aforementioned new plants. The Southeast Region comes in second this quarter with 20 new plants but is only ranked third in terms of number of new jobs with just under 2,700. The second place spot in the new jobs race belongs to the Mid-Atlantic Region which is anticipating some 3,100 jobs will be created as a result of the 19 new plants that will open in the region during quarter.
A closer look at where these new plants will call home shows that the state of North Carolina is the front runner in both total new plants with nine and total new jobs expected to be created as a result of the opening of those new plants, 1,500. Rounding our the top five states by total number of grassroot plants expected to become operational this quarter are Indiana with eight, Georgia with seven, Texas with six and four states tied at five new plants, Washington, Illinois, California and Tennessee. In terms of the balance of the top five states by total new employees, Illinois takes second place with 1,400, California is in third at 1,100, Indiana is fourth with 900 and Georgia takes fifth place with 830 new jobs.
Coming on the heels of an amazing first quarter for the Industrial Manufacturing Industry where almost 130 new plants opened their doors representing 25,000 new jobs in the United States, the second quarter is still showing some very nice numbers for the industry. If the pace remains consistent during the third and fourth quarters of the year, look for the Industrial manufacturing industry to have a banner year in 2007 in terms of total grassroot plants completing construction as well as total new jobs created by those plants.
