Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 199,726-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Milazzo refinery will undergo several planned maintenance turnarounds later this year. The Italian refinery is a 50:50 joint venture between Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) (Safat, Kuwait) and AGIP Petroli (Rome, Italy), a subsidiary of Eni SpA (NYSE:E) (Rome).
The shutdowns will take place during September and October and will entail mainly routine inspection, cleaning and maintenance. The Topping 4 unit will shut down on September 18, and mechanical work is set to begin one week later; the downtime is expected to take approximately 45 non-production days. Separately, the Fluid Catalytic Cracker, the Alkylation unit, the Hydroisomerization unit, the Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether unit and the Acid Regeneration unit will halt production on October 2. Mechanical work is expected to begin eight days after the units are brought offline. This routine is expected to last 40 non-production days.
The refinery's last major turnaround took place in May 2008, and the next major event is planned for 2012. For more details, view related July 16, 2009, article - Maintenance Shutdown at Italy's Milazzo Refinery.
