Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--JB Ethanol Limited (Port Esquivel, Jamaica), a subsidiary of leading poultry producer Jamaica Broilers Group Limited (JAM:JBG) (McCook, Jamaica), is proceeding with construction activity on a fuel ethanol plant expansion in Port Esquivel.
The 54 million-gallon-per-year sugar-cane-based plant went into operation in July 2007 and will be expanded to produce 120 million gallons per year of the renewable fuel. The company's plans to export ethanol to the U.S. lead to the expansion.
Construction started on the $15 million project in June, and the company expects to have the additional capacity online by the beginning of 2009. The project also involves expanding the company's on-site storage capacities by an additional 10 million gallons for a total capacity of 24 million gallons.
The plant will utilize Dedini S.A.'s (Piracicaba, Brazil) ethanol process technology and is being built by local contractors under a JB Ethanol management team.
Jamaica's government has mandated island-wide use of ethanol-blended fuel by April 2009. When the mandate goes into effect, Jamaica's capacity for producing ethanol is expected to grow to by an additional 35 million gallons per year by 2013.
Industrial Info's Ethanol Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging alternative fuels market. This database covers 156 ethanol plants in operation and 530 plants under development. It also covers 98 operational biodiesel plants and 245 biodiesel plants under development.
