Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Knight's Companies (Summerville, South Carolina) has begun site clearing for a new concrete block plant, located at its new 28-acre site (Plant 1061949) in the Eastport Park off of Highway 78 in Dorchester County, Summerville, South Carolina. The concrete block plant will be housed in a 36,000 square foot pre-engineered metal building provided by Mesco Metal Buildings (Grapevine, Texas) and is part of the first phase of a $5 million project.
Also included in the first phase will be two other storage buildings with overhead cranes to handle storage and distribution of concrete block products. The concrete block equipment is being supplied by Besser Company (Alpena, Michigan).
Operation of the new concrete block plant is scheduled for summer of 2004. Upon completion, the new Summerville plant will be capable of producing 17,000 blocks per eight-hour shift. Primary production will be blocks of standard gray masonry, but other production will include architectural split block and concrete brick. The plant will create about 45 new jobs.
A second phase will involve the construction of a concrete Redi-mix plant at the site sometime in late 2004.
The site will also house the company's corporate office.
The company will relocate production operations from its existing plant (Plant 1055637), which is located at 818 Central Avenue in Summerville. The Central Avenue plant will be converted to a trucking distribution and maintenance shop.
