Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging, Incorporated (Longview, Washington) is seeking state permit approval to proceed with constructing a power plant expansion at a pulp and paper mill in Longview, Washington. The company is proposing the installation of a new biomass-fired boiler rated at 650,000-pounds-per-hour of steam, and a new steam turbine generator with a 65-megawatt (MW) capacity. The new boiler will burn mill waste, including wood chips, sawdust and hog fuel. If Longview can obtain the necessary permit approvals this year, the company expects to begin construction by the first quarter of 2011 and have the new generating unit online a year later.
The Harris Group (Seattle, Washington) is working on the detailed design and is assisting with proposals reviews for the supply of the boiler and turbine generator. Longview will utilize a host of local and regional suppliers and contractors throughout the construction and startup of the new unit.
Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging began operations at the Longview site in 1927, producing containerboard-type paper products. Today, the mill produces, on average, 3,200 tons per day of linerboard, corrugating medium and various paper grades.
