Maple Energy to Start Selling Ethanol in Peru This Month, Port of Paita Complex Complete
Maple Energy plc (LSE:MPLE) (San Isidro, Lima, Peru) and subsidiary Maple Etanol SRL (Suliana, Piura) are ready to start selling and distributing fuel ethanol from a new complex at the Port of Paita in Peru.
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Maple Energy plc (LSE:MPLE) (San Isidro, Lima, Peru) and subsidiary Maple Etanol SRL (Suliana, Piura) are ready to start selling and distributing fuel ethanol from a new complex at the Port of Paita in Peru. The sugar-based fuel ethanol plant began construction on the $275 million plant in late 2009. Praj Industries provided the licensed process technology for the project. The general contractor, Haug SA (Callao, Lima), completed the work earlier this month.
The plant was originally scheduled to begin production during the second quarter of 2011, but the schedule was revised due to unexpected delays from third-party providers. For additional information, see December 28, 2011 - Maple Energy Postpones Ethanol Plant Start-Up Until First Quarter 2012. The delay resulted in additional project-related expenses, including additional internal project management and administrative costs and other costs related to the development and ongoing planting and cultivating of sugarcane on the main estate.
The plant will process about 5,000 tons per day of sugarcane feedstock to produce 35 million gallons per year of fuel ethanol. That amounts to roughly 20 gallons of ethanol per one ton of sugarcane. The plant also includes a 37-megawatt (MW) power plant that will meet the power requirements for the ethanol plant, and an expected 17 MW of power will be sold to the Peruvian national power grid.
A third-party ethanol storage, loading and shipping facility that is owned by Penta Tank Terminals SA has been completed and is ready to support end product distribution now that the complex is operational.
