Marquis Energy to Double Capacity at Fuel Ethanol Plant in Hennepin, Illinois

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Marquis Energy LLC (Hennepin, Illinois) plans to double the nameplate capacity of its fuel ethanol plant in Hennepin, Illinois. Construction began on the original plant in late 2006, and in mid-2008 it began turning 44 million bushels of corn into 140 million gallons of fuel ethanol annually.

Marquis Energy has submitted a request to the state's EPA for a permit allowing them to double the capacity to 280 million gallons. Marquis Energy is looking to commence construction in the fall of this year and to finish about a year later. This is good news for the local farmers and economy. When the expansion has been completed, Marquis Energy will be purchasing 88 million bushels of corn annually in addition to adding 40 to 45 employees.

The 120-acre campus is along the Illinois River on Esk Road in Hennepin.

Illinois currently has 14 operational fuel ethanol plants, while six more are in the planning stages.
