Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Enel Green Power (Mexico), through its special purpose vehicle Energias Renovables La Mata SAPI de CV, with Alstom Power S.A. de CV (Mexico), has begun construction on Phase II of the Sureste 1 windfarm project. The facility will be located on the Tehuantepec Isthmus, Oaxaca, Mexico, with an estimated total investment value of $160 million.
Enel Green Power was chosen as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project, which will consist of 34 Alstom ECO 100 turbine platform wind turbine generator sets, each of 3 megawatts. The windfarm will provide about 102 MW, which is enough for 60,000 homes. It will prevent about 240 metric tons per year of CO2 emissions.
Phase II of the windfarm will help satisfy growing electricity demand within the state of Oaxaca.
About 75% of Mexico's 60 gigawatts (GW) of total installed electricity generation capacity currently comes from fossil fuels.
The project is estimated to create more than 100 site preparation and construction jobs. About 12 permanent positions will be created for operation and maintenance services. The windfarm is slated for full operations at the end of 2014.
