Mid-America Biofuels Begins Construction on Missouri’s First Commercial Scale Biodiesel Plant

Mid-America Biofuels LLC (Mexico, Missouri), a joint venture partnership between Biofuels LLC (Jefferson City, Missouri), Ray-Carroll County Grain Growers (Richmond, Missouri), MFA Oil Company (Columbia, Missouri) and ADM Company (Decatur, Illinois), has begun construction on Missouri’s first commercial scale biodiesel plant near ADM’s existing soybean processing plant in Mexico, Missouri.

Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 30 million gallons per year plant that will utilize virgin soybean oil from ADM’s Mexico operation. The plant was designed internally by ADM and the consortium will act as its own construction manager, selecting the subcontractors and construction crafts to build the plant.

Construction is expected to be completed within a 12-month window, just in time for the new soybean harvest in 2006.

Some 20 million bushels of Missouri grown soybeans will be processed at the new plant annually.

Today, five new biodiesel plants are under construction in the U.S. and another twenty-six plants are under development. If all of the projects move forward as planned over the next two years, the domestic biodiesel industry will grow to over 595 million gallons annually.
