One of the largest projects underway in Mississippi involves Nissan Motor Company Limited's (Yokohama, Japan) plans to have electric vehicles (EVs) make up 40% of its U.S. sales by 2030. The company this summer began a retooling project at its plant in Canton, Mississippi, to allow the manufacture of EVs for the Nissan and Infiniti brands. Production from the retooled lines is expected to begin in 2025. As U.S. customers grow increasingly acclimated to and reliant on e-commerce, even brick and mortar stores are building distribution centers with the aim to ship products directly to customers. In Olive Branch, Mississippi, on the southern outskirts of Memphis, Tennessee, Walmart Incorporated (NYSE:WMT) (Bentonville, Arkansas) is constructing a 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center, where merchandise will be stored, picked, packed and shipped to customers. Construction kicked off earlier this year and is planned to wrap up early next summer. Subscribers can click here for more details.

Renewable energy accounts for the majority of power projects tracked in the U.S. these days, and Mississippi is part of this. Cubico Sustained Investments (London, England) kicked off construction on its Delta's Edge solar project in Carrollton last year. The facility will use more than 327,000 solar panels to provide a nameplate generating capacity of 100 megawatts (MW). Construction is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Earlier this year, Origis Energy USA Incorporated (Miami, Florida) began constructing its Golden Triangle II photovoltaic solar plant in Artesia, in the east of the state. The plant will use more than 651,000 panels to generate 200 MW. In addition, a 50-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) will support the plant during times when the sun is not shining. The projects are expected to last into the fourth quarter of next year. Subscribers can click here for the report on the solar farm and click here for the report on the BESS.

Also trending in Mississippi is projects for cannabis cultivation and processing. The state boasts no less than three such projects under construction. Among these is Mockingbird Cannabis LLC's (Jackson, Mississippi) facility near Raymond. The project entails renovating approximately 160,000 square feet of space that was previously home to the Mississippi Department of Revenue. According to news media, the facility includes 16 grow rooms, each capable of producing 250 to 300 pounds of medical-grade cannabis every eight weeks. The project is nearing completion.
