Helping propel the Industrial Manufacturing Industry to the top of the spending heap in Missouri is the extension of a streetcar line in Kansas City. The project kicked off early last year and entails adding an approximately 3.5-mile line extension to the 2.2-mile line that will include 15 new stop platforms and nine stations. The project is expected to be completed toward the end of 2024. The COVID-19 pandemic helped exacerbate a global shortage of semiconductors, and in Saint Peters, Missouri, MEMC LLC (Saint Peters) is stepping up to meet demand with an expansion project that includes construction of a 60,000-square-foot building addition and adding a new 300-millimeter silicon-on-insulator wafer production line to help increase production capacity and meet growing global demand. The project kicked off a few months ago and is expected to be completed next summer. Subscribers can click here for the full report.
Among the largest projects underway in the state is American Foods Group LLC's (AFG) (Green Bay, Wisconsin) grassroot cattle slaughtering and processing plant in Wright City. The company broke ground for the new plant in September and is expected to complete the project in 2024. The project includes construction of a new 775,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art plant that AFG projects will be able to process more than 2,400 head per day when operational. Gray Construction Company (Lexington, Kentucky) is providing design-build services for the plant, which is expected to be in operation by the end of 2024. With an increase in pet ownership in the U.S. has come an increased demand for pet food and treats. Mars Incorporated (McLean, Virginia) is helping meet this demand for one of its most popular dog treats, Greenies chews, by installing new processing and packaging machinery at its Kansas City plant. According to local news media, the project will increase production capacity by 75%, or 940 million treats per year, and is expected to create 95 jobs. The project is expected to be completed in the first half of next year. Subscribers can click here for the full report.
Rounding out Missouri's top three industries by overall project value is the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry, which comes in with more than $1 billion worth of projects underway. Among the largest of these is Washington University's (Saint Louis, Missouri) construction of a laboratory building at its Saint Louis campus. The project entails constructing an 11-story, 600,000-square-foot, LEED-Silver-certified neuroscience research lab building addition, featuring 350,000 square feet of wet lab space and a 150,000-square-foot vivarium. After more than three years of construction, the new building is expected to be completed next summer.
