Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) is tracking more than $20.5 billion in projects that are planned to kick off in the Mid-Atlantic market region (Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and D.C.) in 2014. In terms of state spending, Maryland has been pushed to the forefront via the construction of Dominion Resources' (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia) Cove Point LNG Terminal, which has a total investment value of more than $4 billion.
In September, the U.S. Department of Energy granted permission for the plant to export up to 770 million cubic feet per day of LNG to countries without a free trade agreement with the United States--the first such project to receive this type of permission outside of the U.S. Gulf Coast region. The project has an estimated total investment value of $4 billion. Other associated projects, including a 130-megwatt cogeneration power plant and associated compressor projects, also add to project spending in the region.
While the Cove Point terminal dominates the Mid-Atlantic's planned project starts, Maryland also holds its own with the construction of Old Dominion Electric Cooperative's (Glen Allen, Virginia) $1.2 billion, 1,000-MW Wildcat Point combined-cycle power plant, which is tentatively planned to kick off construction in late 2014.
While high-profile projects such as these grab the headlines, smaller capital projects also add up to significant spending. For example the Metals & Minerals Industry has nearly $2.5 billion in projects planned to kick off in the region in 2014, including more than $1.3 billion mining projects, primarily in West Virginia.
Industrial Info is pleased to be discussing these projects and other industrial spending trends and drivers in our upcoming 2014 Market Outlook and Networking Event in Washington, D.C. The complementary event will be held December 3 at the Ritz-Carlton and will focus on project spending activity in the U.S. and Canada, with a special emphasis on the U.S. Mid-Atlantic market region.
Our industry experts will discuss current and future trends in the following industries:
