NCPE Begins Engineering for Phase I of China Huaneng's Lingang Gas-Fired Cogeneration Power Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The kick-off ceremony for Phase I of China Huaneng Group's (Beijing) Lingang Gas-Fired Cogeneration Power Project was held in the Binhai New District of Tianjin City on August 8, 2012, according to an announcement from North China Power Engineering Company Limited (Beijing) on August 10, 2012.

The Huaneng Lingang Gas-Fired Cogeneration Power Project, located in the Lingang Economic Zone of Binhai New District, is a key energy project aimed for power structural adjustment in Tianjin City. The project is invested by Huaneng Power International Corporation Limited (NYSE:HNP) (Beijing), the listed flagship of China Huaneng Group. According to plans, the project will be furnished with four 9F-class, gas-fired, combined-cycle units, two of which, with a total installed capacity of about 900 megawatts (MW), will be built in Phase I. The first phase of the project received approval from the Development and Reform Commission of Tianjin City on June 25, 2012.

The kick-off of the project marks that the project has achieved an important milestone toward final completion. According to the schedule, the project will be built in two phases. Phase I will begin operations in October 2013, and the Phase II will be built based on the load demand in the future. Upon completion, the project will be able to generate about 4.16 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity to local grid and supply about 650 MW of heat for an area of about 13 million square meters. Together with China Huaneng Group's Integrated Gasification Combined-Cycle located in the same area, the project will become an important clean energy base in the Binhai New District.

Among the leaders and representatives who attended the kick-off ceremony were Cao Peixi, the general manager of China Huaneng Group, and Liu Chaoan, the chairman of NCPE.
