North American Grassroot Poultry Plant Expansions Accelerate to More than $700 Million

Arkansas, Texas and Pennsylvania are the leaders when it comes to the largest grassroot poultry projects, with almost $240 million in capital expenditures reported. Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio are among the leaders in poultry plant expansions, with more than $170 million in projects.
Across the U.S., plans are under way to build 10 new processing plants and expand 23 existing poultry plants. Many of the grassroot plants and expansion projects are still in the planning or engineering phases.
Arkansas has been a hot spot for capital spending, with almost $250 million in capital expenditures currently being reported by Industrial Info. Two of the largest active projects in Arkansas include a $120 million grassroot poultry processing plant in the planning phase and a $29 million plant expansion in the planning phase.
The state of Texas is not far behind, with $170 million in capital expenditures. Two of the largest projects include a $75 million grassroot poultry processing plant in Palestine, and an $8 million plant expansion in Nixon.
Poultry looks to be ready for a solid year for capital expenditures, as there are several grassroot poultry plants and expansions of existing processing plants in many states across the country. There are 116 capital projects in the planning, engineering or construction phase, with a combined value of almost $1.2 billion.
