North Country Ethanol to resume Ethanol Production Today in South Dakota

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--North Country Ethanol LLC (Rosholt, South Dakota), a subsidiary of Tri-State Financial LLC (Onalaska, Wisconsin), is expected to resume grinding corn today and begin fuel ethanol production later this week.

The plant has been idle since the fall of 2008 and will resume production under a tolling agreement with ethanol marketer Tenaska BioFuels LLC (Omaha, Nebraska). Tenaska BioFuels will purchase the corn and natural gas for the plant that will allow Tri-State to produce ethanol and distillers grains.

The plant first went into production in 2003, producing 14 million gallons per year of ethanol under the name Tri-State Ethanol Company LLC. Tri-State went bankrupt later that year due to cost overruns from construction, as well as reported process failures due to an inadequate design that was built around used equipment and now-failed technology provider Gaylor Engineering. The plant was retrofitted by ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) in 2005 to produce 26 million gallons per year of ethanol.

North Country took in corn all of last week, and with grinding resuming this morning, ethanol could begin flowing from the plant again later this week.

Rosholt is located in the Northeast corner of South Dakota, near the near the North Dakota and Minnesota state lines in Roberts County.
