North Prairie Plans to Start Construction on Wisconsin Biodiesel Plant Next Month

Plans call for creation of a nameplate 45 million-gallon per year biodiesel plant that will process 80,000 bushels per day of soybeans into the renewable fuel.

Start-up member-owned North Prairie Productions, LLC (Waterloo, Wisconsin) is planning to begin preliminary earthwork and groundbreaking for the construction of a new biodiesel plant that will be located in Evansville, Wisconsin. The company is close to its goal of raising capital for the $45 million project and when the weather in the area clears up, construction will begin.

Plans call for creation of a nameplate 45 million-gallon per year biodiesel plant that will process 80,000 bushels per day of soybeans into the renewable fuel. Foth & Van Dyck and Associates (Green Bay, Wisconsin) has been awarded preliminary and final engineering for the project and also assisted the company through the permitting process. Boldt Construction (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) was awarded the general construction contract and the firm is currently seeking construction subcontractors for the project.

Site work is expected to take about two to three months to complete and construction should be in full swing by early summer and construction is expected to take about one year to complete.

Three additional biodiesel plants are currently under construction in Wisconsin. Sanimax Energy is building a 20 million-gallon per year plant in De Forest. Midwest Biofuel is currently building a 10 million-gallon per year plant in Clinton and BEST Energies recently began construction on an 8 million-gallon per year plant in Cashton. Additional biodiesel plants are in the works for Owen, Appleton and Butler, Wisconsin.
