Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The state of Oklahoma is quietly growing its ability to produce homegrown alternative fuels and already has a plant up and running. Earth Biofuels Incorporated (OTCBB:EBOF) (Dallas, Texas) put a 10 million gallon per year biodiesel plant online earlier this year and has unconfirmed plans to add an ethanol production unit to the plant in Durant. Earth Biofuels went into operation as the only commercial scale biodiesel plant in the state. Since then, other players have come to the table and Oklahoma now has about $382 million in capital dollars that will be spent over the coming years to build alternative fuel facilities.
Oklahoma Ethanol LLC (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma), a subsidiary of Oklahoma Sustainable Energy, is proceeding with plans to build a 50 million gallon per year plant in Enid, Oklahoma. Once funding is approved, the project could move into the construction phase by late summer of 2007. Redland Industries Incorporated (Clinton, Oklahoma) is seeking funds to construct a 30 million gallon per year biodiesel plant in Guymon, Oklahoma. This project may start out as a pilot plant and grow capacity as the market dictates.
The company has contacted The Benham Companies as a potential design-build contractor.
Nova Biosource Fuels Incorporated (Houston, Texas) is proposing to build a 60 million gallon per year plant at the Port of Muskogee in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Construction could begin here with the next 60 days if everything continues to move forward and the project is funded as planned.
Orion Ethanol LLC (Pratt, Kansas) is planning to build a 55 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plant in Shattuck. The company has secured a design-build contractor in Lurgi Incorporated (Memphis, Tennessee) and the company could begin mobilizing staff to the site within the next 30 to 60 days.
U.S. Bioenergy (Brookings, South Dakota) is investigating a site in Guymon as a potential spot for a 100 million gallon per year ethanol plant. No firm construction date has been identified as the company is looking into multiple new plants across the U.S.
Ethanol Energy LLC (Gaithersburg, Maryland) is currently in the permitting phase on a proposed 100 million plant that will be built in Wagoner. Construction could begin here late summer, however, no technology provider or design-build contractor has been identified and no new news from the owner was available on a firm construction start date. A small recently announced company Tulsa Biofuels LLC (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma) is looking for an existing building to set up a small 750,000 gallon per year plant in Tulsa. Once completed, the plant could double in size within a year.
If all plants are built as planned, Oklahoma will grow its ability to produce renewable fuels to over 315 million gallons of capacity. Will additional corn and soybean crops expected to be planted, additional plants could be in the works in the future for the state.
