Ontario's Goulais Windfarm Begins Operations

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 25-megawatt (MW) Goulais windfarm, which is located in the Algoma District of Ontario, Canada, began commercial operations late last month following its completion by Capstone Infrastructure Corporation (Toronto, Ontario).

The windfarm utilizes 2.3-MW Siemens S114 turbines. The $57.5 million project was proposed and approved under the provincial Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) program, and has a 20-year contract with the Independent Electricity System Operator. The project was developed in partnership with the Batchewana First Nation of Ojibways.

Construction began in November 2014. Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) will provide operation and maintenance services for the windfarm under a long-term service agreement.
