Otter Tail Ag Commissioning Minnesota Fuel Ethanol Plant this Week

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned ethanol start-up Otter Tail Ag Enterprises LLC (Fergus Falls, Minnesota) is going through the commissioning process and expects to be producing fuel ethanol soon at its new ethanol plant in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Earlier in the week, the plant ran well for two days. Then some of the plant's gear boxes ran unsuccessfully and general mechanical failures caused the plant to shut down for retrofit work. The plant should be operational this morning.

Construction of the plant began in October 2006 and was built on time and on budget. The Fergus Falls plant will utilize Delta-T (Williamsburg, Virginia) licensed ethanol process technology and was built by the team of Harris Mechanical Service LLC (Saint Paul, Minnesota); Gateway Building Systems (Fargo, North Dakota) and Knutson Construction (Rochester, Minnesota).

The plant will have a nameplate capacity of producing 55 million gallons per year of the renewable fuel and will require about 19.5 million bushels of corn annually.

The plant is located on a 114-acre site 2 miles northwest of Fergus Falls in Otter Tail County.

Construction costs to build the plant were in the $75 million range.
