PDVSA Expanding Anaco Puerto La Cruz Pipeline

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Houston, Texas)--PDVSA Gas (Caracas, Venezuela), PDVSA's subsidiary in charge of gas projects, is nearing construction completion of the last phase of a natural gas pipeline in the state of Anzoategui. The pipeline extends from Anaco City to the Puerto La Cruz industrial park in northern Venezuela. The system consists of three parallel pipelines, two of which are already operational. The addition of the third pipeline will increase transport capacity and connect other gas transmission lines, guaranteeing a supply of gas to the northern region of the country.

The project is part of the government's 2006-12 strategic plan focusing on upgrading the gas network. As part of the plan, the capacity will be expanded to reach a total of 866 million standard cubic feet per day. The complete pipeline will be 162 miles long. The first phase, which is 36 miles long, was built by PDVSA's management company, PDVSA Gas Metano (Anaco, Venezuela). The same company is also building the last stage of the pipeline, which is expected to be complete by the end of 2008.
