PDVSA to Complete New Gas Pipeline in December 2009

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In January 2008, PDVSA Gas (Caracas), Venezuela's state-owned oil company, reactivated the construction of the pipeline from Barbacoas to Margarita, giving the Barbacoas Industrial Zone a powerful push to become one of the country's most important production areas. The pipeline is set to be complete by December 2009.

The undertaking, which has required a $230 million investment, is a 134-mile natural gas pipeline with a 22-mile underwater segment that will link Barbacoas to Isla Margarita, transporting 800 million standard cubic feet per day of gas.

Before construction, the project was initially called the Barbacoas-Margarita Pipeline, but was eventually renamed SINORGAS (Northeastern Gas System). The construction contract for installation has been awarded to the Venezuelan companies Confurca (Anzoategui) and Trime C.A. (Carabobo). Confurca is in charge of mechanical construction, while Trime is handling electric installation.

The installation of the pipeline will benefit the states of Sucre, Nueva Esparta and Anzoategui.
