Philippine Biofuels Industry Pushes to Increase CME Fuel Blend, an Industrial Info Market Brief

The Philippine biofuels industry is pushing for a gradual increase in the use of coco methyl ester (CME) in biofuels to 5% by 2021. Under the Biofuel Acts of 2006, biofuel products must be blended with CME derived from copra (dried coconut kernels). The mandated blend started with 1%, then rose to 2% by 2007, and has remained at that level. The Philippine government is crafting an executive order to strictly mandate full compliance with CME blending requirements and study the potential impact of a gradual increase of CME blending on copra prices.
